The best reusable water bottle for the gym
How the Fressko Move 500ml scores
Every bottle we cover is scored on the same published criteria. The Edit Score v1.0 is a 100-point composite scored by The Reusable Edit: 25% durability, 25% everyday performance, 10% materials & safety, 20% sustainability, 15% value, 5% evidence strength. Pillars with no data for a product are dropped and the remaining weights re-normalised, so a score is never padded with an assumption.

Why it wins for training
Leakproof in a gym bag
The screw lid with a compressed gasket survived our inversion and loaded-bag carry checks. Push-button and straw lids are the common leakers — the seal depends on a spring rather than a compressed gasket.
Cold for the whole day
Vacuum-insulated stainless holds water cold for around 24 hours. Fill it before work and it is still cold at a 6pm session — a plastic or single-walled bottle warms within the hour.
Survives the floor
18/8 stainless takes being dropped on rubber gym flooring and knocked off a bench without denting the seal surfaces. It also does not hold smell after weeks of use the way plastic does.
The right size
500ml is a single fill for most one-hour sessions — light enough to carry between stations. For long sessions, hot yoga or outdoor training, the 660ml Move is the same build with more range.
If you train longer: the Move 660ml
Same construction, same lid, more capacity — Fressko Move 660ml Bottle is our highest-scoring bottle at 91/100 and the pick when a session runs past the hour or the room runs hot. Read the Move 660ml review.
Frequently asked
- What size water bottle is best for the gym?
- 500ml covers a typical one-hour session without a refill for most people. 660ml to 1 litre suits long sessions, hot rooms or anyone who would rather not queue at the fountain.
- Is stainless or plastic better for a gym bottle?
- Stainless. It survives being dropped on a rubber floor, does not retain smell after weeks of use, and insulated stainless keeps water cold for around 24 hours where plastic warms within an hour.
- Do gym bottles leak in a bag?
- Screw-top insulated bottles with a gasketed lid are the reliable ones. Push-button and straw lids are the common leakers because the seal depends on a spring rather than a compressed gasket.
How we choose
Every product carries one 0–100 overall score built from the same six sub-scores: seal integrity, thermal performance, cleanability, materials safety, repairability and cost per year of ownership. Category-specific weightings are published on each product page.
The Reusable Edit is independent and takes no payment for coverage. Outbound retail links are affiliate-tracked; commissions never change a score or a ranking.
