Care, cleaning & longevity for bottles

Insulated stainless bottles routinely last 10+ years if you respect two things: the seal and the vacuum wall.

Rinse every day even if it was only water — bacteria love the threads under the lid.
Use a long-handled bottle brush weekly; sponges cannot reach the base curve where slime forms first.
Store upside-down with the lid off so the interior actually dries.

Fortnightly: half a cup of white vinegar plus warm water, sit for 20 minutes, brush, rinse.
For sports/citrus funk: two tablespoons bicarb + a splash of vinegar (it will fizz), leave overnight, rinse.
Denture tablets work brilliantly for narrow-mouth bottles you cannot reach with a brush.

Never put boiling liquid straight in without warming the bottle first — thermal shock is what kills the vacuum seal.
Do not dishwash unless the brand explicitly says so; heat destroys the vacuum insulation and voids most warranties.
Replace the lid gasket every 12-24 months; the bottle itself will outlast the lid by a decade.

When to replace

The bottle no longer holds temperature (a sign the vacuum is broken) or the inner wall is dented from a hard fall.
