Care, cleaning & longevity for kitchen & eating

Beeswax wraps, silicone pouches, glass storage, reusable cutlery — small kitchen swaps that only work if you actually use them daily.

Everyday care

  • Beeswax wraps: cool water and a mild soap only; heat melts the wax off the cotton.
  • Silicone pouches (Stasher etc.): turn inside out to dry — trapped water is the #1 complaint.
  • Reusable cutlery: rinse straight after use in the carry pouch, wash properly at home.

Deep clean

  • Beeswax wraps every 2-3 months: sandwich between baking paper, warm iron on low for 20 seconds to re-melt the wax and refresh the seal.
  • Silicone: dishwasher-safe but hand wash for anything oily (oil clings to silicone microscopically) — a boil-water rinse restores it.
  • Glass storage: bicarb paste for cloudy interiors; vinegar rinse to descale water spots.

Longevity tips

  • Refresh beeswax wraps by rubbing a fresh bar of pure beeswax over the fabric and warming in a low oven — a $6 bar refurbishes a set of six wraps.
  • Do not use beeswax wraps for raw meat or fish, ever; the wax cannot be sanitised.
  • Silicone pouches survive freezer, oven and sous-vide — abuse them, they're designed for it.
When to replace

Beeswax wrap fabric is fraying and re-waxing no longer holds, or silicone has torn along a fold line.
