How to reuse

Care, cleaning & longevity for reusable cups

A reusable cup only pays off environmentally after 20-40 uses vs single-use. Look after it and it will do thousands.

Everyday care

  • Rinse immediately after every drink — coffee oils oxidise within an hour and turn into that stubborn brown film.
  • Hand-wash with warm water and a drop of dish soap; avoid abrasive scourers on the drink-through lid seal.
  • Air-dry lid and cup separately with the seal popped out so trapped moisture cannot go funky.

Deep clean

  • Weekly: fill halfway with hot water, one teaspoon of bicarb, shake for 30 seconds, rinse.
  • Monthly: soak the silicone lid ring in a 1:1 white-vinegar/water solution for 20 minutes to kill mineral scale and lingering odours.
  • Dishwasher-safe cups still last longer on the top rack only, and never with the lid closed.

Longevity tips

  • Replace silicone seals every 12-18 months (most brands sell spares for $4-8) — a hardened seal is why lids start leaking, not the cup itself.
  • Never microwave stainless-insulated cups; check the base for a ceramic-safe marking before double-walled glass goes in.
  • Store with the lid loose or off — long-term sealed storage is the #1 cause of that permanent stale-coffee smell.
When to replace

The seal has gone hard and cracked AND replacement seals are unavailable, or the inner wall shows deep pitting/rust.
