Care, cleaning & longevity for reusable pods & filters

Reusable coffee pods and metal filters are the least-forgiving reusables — a single missed clean and the next coffee tastes like petrol.

Everyday care

  • Empty the puck the moment the shot finishes; wet grounds compress into the mesh within 20 minutes.
  • Rinse under hot running water — a small pod brush is $3 and doubles the pod's life.
  • For refillable Nespresso-style pods, wipe the silicone lid with a lint-free cloth (paper towel sheds fibres into the seal).

Deep clean

  • Weekly: soak in a solution of one Cafiza tablet in a cup of hot water for 15 minutes.
  • Metal cone filters (Kone, Able): a stiff paint brush + hot water gets what dishwashers miss.
  • For stubborn oil films: dish soap + bicarb, rub with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly.

Longevity tips

  • Never scour with steel wool — you widen the mesh holes and start getting grounds in the cup.
  • Store dry; a lidded pod stored damp will corrode along the crimped rim.
  • Rotate two or three pods so you never have to reload a warm/wet pod for the next round.
When to replace

Grounds start slipping through the mesh (a sign of stretched holes) or the silicone lid seal will no longer hold pressure.
