The complete buying guide to refillable Nespresso pods
Quick answer
Buy Sealpod if you value ease, WayCap Basic if you value zero foil, My-Cap if you already own a decent espresso grinder. All three replace thousands of aluminium pods and pay for themselves inside a month of daily use.
Why refillable pods matter
Aluminium pods are recyclable in theory and rarely recycled in practice — Nespresso's own most-recent global figure is about 30% collection. A single stainless capsule replaces roughly 3,000 single-use pods over its useful life. That is meaningful even before you count the coffee you like better because you chose the beans.
The three you should actually consider
- Sealpod — the daily driver. Fits every original-line machine, uses a thin foil lid (paper lids sold separately), and forgives a slightly coarser grind than the others.
- WayCap Basic — Italian-made, no lid needed. Trickier tamp, but fully closed-loop.
- My-Cap — the espresso-first option, best paired with a proper burr grinder.
Grind, dose, tamp
Refillable pods produce coffee at least as good as OEM pods once you get three variables right:
- Grind finer than you would for filter, close to espresso.
- Dose 5–6g for a lungo, 6–7g for a ristretto.
- Tamp firmly with a spoon back or a proper 25mm tamper.
Expect to spend a week dialling. After that, it is just coffee.

Frequently asked
- Do refillable Nespresso pods fit all machines?
- They fit every original-line machine (Pixie, Essenza, Inissia, CitiZ, Vertuo compatibility is different — reusable Vertuo pods exist but are limited).
- Are refillable pods dishwasher safe?
- Yes for Sealpod, WayCap and My-Cap. Rinse first to keep coffee oils out of the dishwasher jets.
- Do the machines detect refillable pods?
- Original-line machines do not. Vertuo machines read a barcode on the pod rim, so only barcoded reusable Vertuo pods work there.
